Rise Up, #FridayFeeling

I have been listening to Andra Day’s “Rise Up” this morning non-stop.  I am in awe with her soulful voice and can’t get enough of this song’s haunting melody.  However, it is the powerful lyrics that resonated with me the most.  I can relate to how someone is going through a roller coaster ride in his or her life personally, and fighting desperately just trying to survive the day.

However, with Andra’s soothing voice and its uplifting message, she is reassuring us that it is okay to be exhausted and drained.  Somehow we will find the strength within us to rise up again.

So here’s the lyrics to the song and hopefully it will lift up your spirit:

You’re broken down and tired
Of living life on a merry-go-round
And you can’t find the fighter
But I see it in you so we gonna walk it out
And move mountains
We gonna walk it out
And move mountains

And I’ll rise up
I’ll rise like the day
I’ll rise up
I’ll rise unafraid
I’ll rise up
And I’ll do it a thousand times again
And I’ll rise up
High like the waves
I’ll rise up
In spite of the ache
I’ll rise up
And I’ll do it a thousands times again
For you

When the silence isn’t quiet
And it feels like it’s getting hard to breathe
And I know you feel like dying
But I promise we’ll take the world to it’s feet
And move mountains
We gonna walk it out
And move mountains
And I’ll rise up
I’ll rise like the day
I’ll rise up
I’ll rise unafraid
I’ll rise up
And I’ll do it a thousand times again
For you

All we need, all we need is hope
And for that we have each other
And for that we have each other
We will rise
We will rise
We’ll rise, ohh ohhh
We’ll rise

I’ll rise up
Rise like the day
I’ll rise up
In spite of the ache
I will rise a thousands times again
And we’ll rise up
Rise like the waves
We’ll rise up
In spite of the ache
We’ll rise up
And we’ll do it a thousands times again
For you

You’ve Got The Love – Wednesday’s Lyrics

This beautifully written song covered by Florence + Machine is my “pick-me-up” song when I am down.

The upbeat tempo puts a smile on my face when I think about the great times that I have had with my dear friends back home.  The lyrics also resonate with me deeply especially when I have moments that “… I feel like throwing my hands up in the air, and Lord, I just don’t care.”

My gals from Sex and The City
My gals from Sex and The City

I am not religious, but I find this song inspiring and uplifting. The message tells me that everything will work out in a mysterious way.  It is also comforting to know that I am loved by my partner, my adorable Elliot, my sometimes dis-fucntional family and my sometimes crazy friends so I can get through my day.

So please enjoy this song and I hope it too will put a smile on your face today.

PS:  Sex and The City featured this song when all the girls reunited for one last time before the show signed off.  Of course, I teared up like a baby when this song played.

“You’ve Got The Love”

Sometimes I feel like throwing my hands up in the air

I know I can count on you
Sometimes I feel like saying, “Lord, I just don’t care.”
But you’ve got the love I need to see me through

Sometimes it seems that the going is just too rough
And things go wrong no matter what I do
Now and then it seems that life is just too much
But you’ve got the love I need to see me through

When food is gone you are my daily meal
When friends are gone I know my Saviour’s love is real
You know it’s real

You got the love
You got the love
You got the love
You got the love
You got the love
You got the love

Time after time I think, “Oh, Lord, what’s the use?”
Time after time I think it’s just no good
‘Cause sooner or later in life, the things you love you lose
But you got the love I need to see me through

You got the love
You got the love
You got the love
You got the love
You got the love
You got the love

Sometimes I feel like throwing my hands up in the air
‘Cause I know I can count on you
Sometimes I feel like saying, “Lord, I just don’t care.”
But you’ve got the love I need to see me through

Chasing Pavements – Wednesday’s Lyrics

For my this week’s Wednesday’s lyrics, I chose Adele’s Chasing Pavements for The Broken Spine‘s weekly lyrics installment.

This is actually my all-time favorite Adele song.  I resonated with the lyrics deeply because I was infatuated with someone many years ago but the feeling wasn’t mutual.  The chorus reflected how I felt at the time because the relationship simply wasn’t going anywhere.  The melody was melancholy, the lyrics were tragic and the video was devastating.  Overall, it was definitely not a happy song. So enjoy it, ha!

I’ve made up my mind,
Don’t need to think it over
If I’m wrong, I am right
Don’t need to look no further,
This ain’t lust
I know this is love

But if I tell the world
I’ll never say enough
’cause it was not said to you
And that’s exactly what I need to do
If I end up with you

[Chorus:]
Should I give up?
Or should I just keep chasin’ pavements
Even if it leads nowhere?
Or would it be a waste
Even if I knew my place?
Should I leave it there?
Should I give up?
Or should I just keep chasin’ pavements
Even if it leads nowhere?

I build myself up
And fly around in circles
Waitin’ as my heart drops
And my back begins to tingle
Finally, could this be it

[Chorus:]
Or should I give up?
Or should I just keep chasin’ pavements
Even if it leads nowhere?
Or would it be a waste
Even if I knew my place?
Should I leave it there?

Should I give up?
Or should I just keep chasin’ pavements
Even if it leads nowhere?

Should I give up?
Or should I just keep on chasin’ pavements
Even if it leads nowhere?
Or would it be a waste
Even if I knew my place?
Should I leave it there?

Should I give up?
Or should I just keep on chasin’ pavements?
Should I just keep on chasin’ pavements?
Ohh oh

[Chorus:]
should I give up?
Or should I just keep chasin’ pavements
Even if it leads nowhere?
Or would it be a waste
Even if I knew my place?
Should I leave it there?

should I give up?
Or should I just keep chasin’ pavements
Even if it leads nowhere

Diet Mountain Dew – Wednesday’s Lyrics

This was my go-to song when I first moved to NYC about three years ago.  It was a tough transition for me leaving California to New York, so the chorus lines from this song resonated with me at the time.  I wasn’t 100% convinced that NYC was for me, plus Lana Del Rey’s lush voice made this song more dramatic for me.  Here’s the Wednesday’s Lyrics event created by The Broken Spine.

“Diet Mountain Dew”

You’re no good for me
Baby you’re no good for me
You’re no good for me
But baby I want you, I want you,

Diet mountain dew, baby, New York City
Never was there ever a girl so pretty
Do you think we’ll be in love forever?
Do you think we’ll be in love?

Diet mountain dew, baby, New York City
Can we hit it now low down and gritty
Do you think we’ll be in love forever?
Do you think we’ll be in love?

Baby put on heart shaped sunglasses
Cause we gonna take a ride
I’m not gonna listen to what the past says
I’ve been waiting up all night

Take another drag turn me to ashes
Ready for another lie?
Says he’s gonna teach me just what fast is
Say it’s gonna be alright

Let’s take Jesus off the dashboard
Got enough on his mind
We both know just what we’re here for
Saved too many times

Maybe I like this roller coaster
Maybe it keeps me high
Maybe the speed it brings me closer
I could sparkle up your eye

Wednesday’s Lyrics

I cry like a baby, on cue, every time when I hear this song, “For Good”, from the Broadway show, Wicked, The Musical.

Many years ago, I lost my partner, my best friend and my confidant, unexpectedly due to some unforeseen circumstances. During my grieving process, I stumbled upon this song and the lyrics resonated with me.  It made me realized that people did come to our lives for a reason, to help us to learn, and we all could become a better person.

So, I like to share the lyrics of this song, “For Good”, and participate in Wednesday’s Lyrics event, created by The Broken Spine for my #blogging101, assignment #13.

“For Good”, from Wicked,  The Musical:

I’ve heard it said
That people come into our lives for a reason
Bringing something we must learn
And we are led
To those who help us most, to grow
If we let them
And we help them in return
Well, I don’t know if I believe that’s true
But I know I’m who I am today
Because I knew you..

Like a comet pulled from orbit , as it passes the sun
Like a stream that meets a boulder
Halfway through the wood
Who can say if I’ve been changed for the better?
But because I knew you
I have been changed for good

It well may be
That we will never meet again
In this lifetime
So let me say before we part
So much of me
Is made of what I learned from you
You’ll be with me
Like a handprint on my heart
And now whatever way our stories end
I know you have re-written mine
By being my friend…
Like a ship blown from its mooring
By a wind off the sea
Like a seed dropped by a skybird
In a distant wood

Who can say if I’ve been changed for the better?
But because I knew you
Because I knew you
I have been changed for good
