New York City had its first blizzard storm two weeks ago and it left us about 27 inches of snow. New York City streets were covered with a thick white blanket and it was difficult to navigate through the neighborhood right after the storm.
We then had back to back flurries happened in the city but nothing significant like the previous blizzard before. The first image was taken right after the flurry and the park looked stunning yet chilled with the right amount of snow. For a moment, this beautiful image reminded me a scene directly from a move, a movie about majestic winter wonder land.
This post is about weekly photo challenge, Gathering. This assignment wants us to “document a gathering and share your interpretation with us”.
I come from a big family and have extended family members who are like siblings to me. With our busy lives and geographic distance, it is often difficult to gather together on a whim and spending quality family time together. So it is great seeing everyone in this special occasion, my brother’s wedding, and celebrate this event with all the family members.
My cousins, my brother and I all grew up together in the same town, went to the same junior high school and spent many holidays as one big family. After high school and college, we all headed different directions and started our own career and family in different cities. With this occasion, it was nice seeing everyone smiling, and catching up with each other’s live.
So I feel this picture is appropriate for this occasion and it is always great looking at a happy image captured through this special gathering.
Elliot is my co-pilot in my daily routine from fetching toys to walking the park together as ways to bond with each other as much as we can. We both have a lot of fun with this photo challenge, Eye Spy, we decided to update another “eye” telling story from Elliot. Here is guideline for this week’s photo challenge:
Are you a history buff? Do you love exploring different neighborhoods with their own distinctive architecture flavor? Or are you a foodie who loves to sample different cuisines in the city? Welcome to Washington DC, our U.S. capital that offers rich culture, history, and fun.
Washington DC, is a compact city on the Potomac River, bordering the states of Maryland and Virginia. Having traveled to DC for both leisure and work in the past, I love what this city has to offer when it comes to a diverse life. In Washington DC, fun bars and restaurants are spread out in different neighborhoods from local favorites JRs and Cobalt located in the historical gay neighborhood, DuPont Circle, to its newly developed blocks, Logan Circle, for a variety of nightlife, like the neighborhood bar Green Lantern to hip spot, Number Nine as couple of my favorite spots to visit when I am in town.
I typically stay at DuPont Circle Hotel for its location convenience or Westin Washington DC Center for an easy walk to Logan Circle. Either way, with its riders-friendly public transportation system placed in DC, it is easy to navigate from one neighborhood to many historical monuments and buildings – including the iconic ones that house the federal government’s 3 branches: the Capitol, White House and Supreme Court – but also its museums and performing-arts venues such as the Kennedy Center.
To truly enjoy your Washington DC visit, try to schedule your trip here during spring or fall season for a mild climate experience.
Elliot, my pride and joy, is an adorable three pounds Yorkie. Elliot may be a teacup Yorkie, he barks without fears, runs around the house chasing after me with strong determination, and has a doberman’s huge personality to match.
Elliot also has expressive eyes. I melt every time when I see his almond shaped brown eyes trying to tell me something everyday. Like in this picture, he is trying to tell me, “Dad, do you think I look cute with my new haircut? If you do, go and get me a treat, because I deserve one.”
Of course, being a sucker for this adorable face and his expressive eyes, I can’t help it but give him a treat until he looks at me again with this animated look.
Who was the first person you encounter today? Write about him or her.
I am the luckiest person waking up to this adorable image, my dear nephew, Baby Benjamin, and knowing that he is getting stronger, better everyday in his young life.
Baby Benjamin finally gets to go home with his parents after two months staying in the hospital. We are grateful for our miracle baby, who arrived two and half months early, abled to come home and celebrate the holiday season with his family. I am extremely lucky to be his uncle, and proud of his parents for being there for Benjamin through out this process.
I hope that I will learn from you and your young energy starting today. I love your fighting spirit to be stronger everyday, I adore your cute face for putting a smile on my face everyday, and I look forward to watching you evolve into a happy kid everyday.
For this holiday season, I am grateful and lucky to have Baby Benjamin in our lives.
I am so happy that you are finally home safely with your Mommy and Daddy this week.
It was so nice seeing you last week. I cried immediately when I saw your chubby cheeks, your handsome face, your adorable little hands, and most importantly, your fighting spirit to be strong and healthy. It was a magical moment when I hold you in my arms and watched you sleeping gently through out the whole process. I didn’t even mind when you farted twice while I was holding you, because I love you so much and only want the best for you.
My dear Benjamin, I can’t wait to celebrate your first birthday with you, listen you uttering your first word, and watch you taking your first step in the playground. I can’t wait to see how strong you will be and how smart you will become.
As my pledge to you, I will do my best to provide a safe, peaceful and loving environment for you in this world. I will spoil you rotten with encouragements, positivities, respect and love. You are a miracle to us, and I want to do better for you so you will have a great life in the future.
For the time being, my dear Benjamin, please get some rest and stay healthy. I will talk and see you very soon.
In response to The Daily Post’s weekly photo challenge: “Ornate.”
Forget about subdued and restrained. This week, let’s embrace the breathtakingly extravagant.
In the recent Metropolitan Museum special exhibition, China: Through the Looking Glass, the curator of this show inspires us with stunning couture creations in gowns, dresses, shoes and accessories made from the most ornate, exquisite and extraordinary materials.
This special head piece was created by Alexander McQueen for one of his extravagant collection reflected from an ancient Chinese painting with traditional architecture illustration. As you can see, the headpiece was carved out from wood with minute and accurate details from Chinese houses, trees and white cranes for this stunning piece.
To me, this creation is truly about being ornate and extra ordinary.
A Story In A Single Image: Writing 101 Day 4 Assignment
The energy permeated from Grand Central Station is intoxicating in many levels. Walking through this iconic site, you can’t help it but feel in awe with this grand historical architect.
For tourists, it is about discovering a sense of history and architecture when they visit Grand Central Station for the first time. For the locals, it is about getting through the day in this busy New York City transportation hub year round.
To me, this image about Grand Central Station evokes my ode to New York City. To me, this picture represents a rich history about the city, the intricate architectural construction of this building, the importance of infrastructure created for the city, and mundane routine for many New Yorkers as a way of living.
If you ever visit New York City, take the time, check out Grand Central Station and soak up the energy from this vibrant building.
