Maybe. Just Maybe.
Alex walked along the streets of Taipei, hands stuffed in the pockets of his sports coat, shoulders squared with the easy confidence he always carried. The city was alive as always—neon lights flashing, scooters weaving through traffic, the scent of street food mixing with the faint aroma of light rain on the pavement.

Alex was sent to Taipei on a temporary job assignment a few weeks ago. Surprisingly, fate brought him to this city, where Charlie had also returned.
At first, he had convinced himself it didn’t matter. It was just another city, another playground for him to charm and conquer.
After all, he had always been the kind of man who knew his worth—handsome, sexy, desired. He could have anyone he wanted. And he had. But somehow, despite all that, he had never been able to thoroughly shake off Charlie’s hold on him.
Sure, Alex and Charlie had a great time together in the beginning. Their relationship was filled with excitement, passion, and endless fun nights. However, as time passed, a subtle shift began to take root within Alex. He found himself yearning for something more—a desire that Charlie could not fulfill.
The rush of adrenaline from new conquests and a tantalizing notion that there might always be someone more captivating started to excite Alex. Therefore Alex began to convince himself that settling down wasn’t for him; that commitment felt like a cage rather than security.
So, he had done what came naturally to him—he chose himself over Charlie. He had cheated. He had walked away when Charlie needed him most. He had been selfish, cowardly, and unwilling to face the hard work of real commitment.
And at the time, Alex had justified it—told himself he was just not ready to settle down. He was meant for something better than the life he and Charlie had built together.
But in reality, it hadn’t been about being unready. It had been about fear. Fear of responsibility, permanence, and the sheer gravity of Charlie’s love demanded more than Alex had been willing to give.

Would Charlie even want to see him again? Alex wondered, Did Alex deserve that chance? With Charlie’s reaction earlier at the office, Alex wasn’t sure if Charlie would like to see him or even talk to him again anytime soon.
And even if he did, what would Alex say? That Alex was sorry? That he wasn’t the same man who had once carelessly thrown away something real? The words felt empty even in his own mind.
Alex shook his head. Maybe it was too late for redemption. Some wounds didn’t heal, and some mistakes couldn’t be undone. He told himself he had no regrets, that Alex had done what was necessary for himself. Charlie had expected too much and wanted things Alex was never ready to give. But deep down, a small, nagging part of him wondered—had he ever really been honest with himself? Had he truly walked away because Charlie wasn’t right for him, or because he had been too selfish to be what Charlie needed?
He took a deep breath, his gaze lifting from the sidewalk to the glowing city around him. Taipei wasn’t just another city, and fate also brought Alex here for another reason—a personal secret that no one knew, not even Charlie.
Alex wasn’t sure if he was ready to expose that secret. All he knew was that, for the first time in years, running away didn’t feel like the answer. It was already hard facing Charlie today. However, this personal secret lingered beneath the surface, a truth Alex hadn’t fully admitted to himself, or willing to face.
And maybe, just maybe, the time had come for Alex to confront the shadows of his past—a past tied to someone in Taiwan whose existence could unravel everything he thought he knew about himself. The answers he sought were here, but was he ready to face them?
