Hi, it’s me again—Oliver! Papa told me I should write another story. He says I have a playful imagination (whatever that means) and that people might enjoy hearing about my daily adventures from my point of view.
So here I am, tapping away with my furry little paws, hoping you’ll get a kick out of my silly antics and puppy-sized wisdom.
Taking Walks

When it comes to taking walks with my Papas, oh boy, do I absolutely LOVE them!
The moment Papa picks up the leash, my entire body wiggles like a bowl of jelly on a rollercoaster. I don’t just wag my tail—I dash around the house like I’m in a race for the fastest pup in the world before finally letting Papa clip that glorious leash on me. I mean, who needs track practice when you can train for the Great Leash Escape?
As soon as we step outside, the whole world feels brand new, like it’s just had a fresh coat of paint.
Even if we’ve walked this block a million times, every day brings different smells. There’s a leaf that wasn’t there yesterday—oh wow, a green miracle! And a crack in the sidewalk? Must sniff for buried treasure! And let’s not even get started on the fire hydrants—each one has a story that could fill a book (or at least, a very exciting magazine). And the fresh pee from other dogs? That’s basically the New York Times for me! I have to stop and “read” every edition, because how else will I know what’s been going on in the neighborhood gossip scene?
Papa says I get “distracted,” but I prefer to think of it as my keen sense of curiosity. Why rush past the good stuff? When you’re small like me, every little thing is a big deal!

My Little Secret
Now, here’s a little secret: for all my sniffing and tail-wagging bravado, I’m actually pretty shy.
When we encounter strangers or other dogs, I sometimes hide behind Papa’s legs because I don’t want the strangers to pet me or other dogs to smell me.
Big dogs make me so nervous that I can practically feel my tail trying to hide under my belly. I let my dads do the talking while I peek out, tiptoeing on my invisible toes to make sure everything is safe. It’s like I’m on a top-secret mission—“Operation Sniff and Scoot.”
Check-in Commander
I am the “Check-in Commander” when we walk. I look back to make sure we are all together. Sometimes, I trot ahead and stop every few steps to see if my Papa and Dada are coming. After all, what’s the point of a walk if we can’t enjoy it together? If my Papa and Dada fall behind, who will protect them from something hiding in a bush?
So, that’s life as a puppy! It’s an exciting adventure full of sniffs, wiggles, and the occasional act of bravery to keep my Papa and Dada close. Until next time, keep your tails wagging and your noses curious!
Finding Joy
Here’s my puppy perspective on walks: they’re not just about moving from one place to another. They’re about taking the time to appreciate the small details, staying close to the people you care about, and knowing that you have a safe place to return to.
If I can find joy in something as simple as a leaf, a crack in the sidewalk, or even another dog’s “pee-mail,” then perhaps humans can discover joy in their everyday moments too. After all, happiness in life comes from appreciating the little joys in the small steps we take each day.
